Panelbeaters Murrays Bay Locals Trust
A dented door from the supermarket car park is one thing. A caved-in quarter panel after someone pulled out on East Coast Road is another. Either way, you want it fixed properly, not just made to look alright from across the street. Holgate Panelbeaters is the panelbeaters Murrays Bay locals turn to, operating out of our Browns Bay workshop, a short run up Beach Road from Murrays Bay Beach Reserve and the wharf where the local sailing club still races most weekends.

Crash Repairs & Panel and Paint

Holgate Panelbeaters handles crash repairs Murrays Bay drivers bring in every week, from a scraped bumper to full structural damage. Every vehicle gets a proper assessment and an honest quote, then gets repaired to the standard it left the factory in, whether you’re paying privately or going through insurance.
Some jobs are barely worth mentioning, a trolley ding, a scuffed bumper from a tight park near the beach. Others arrive on a tow truck. Either way, it gets the same attention.
Our panel and paint Murrays Bay work covers dent removal, colour matching, plastic welding and full structural repair, all done in-house at Browns Bay rather than farmed out. We’re a CRA (Collision Repair Association) accredited structural repairer, a status that comes from an actual assessment of our training and equipment, not just our word for it.
Tesla, BYD and EV Body Repairs Murrays Bay
Half the driveways around Murrays Bay seem to have a Tesla or BYD in them these days. That matters, because these aren’t steel-bodied cars underneath. Aluminium and aluminium-steel hybrid frames need proper rivet-bonding and welding gear, and getting that wrong risks more than a poor paint match, it can affect how the car performs in a future crash.
We’re one of only two Tesla panelbeaters Murrays Bay owners can reach with official Tesla approved repairer status, with direct access to genuine parts for Model S, Model 3, Model X and Model Y as well as the new models coming out. We’re also an approved BYD repairer, approved Forthing and Denza repairer too, so electric vehicle owners outside the Tesla range are covered too.
Our EV body repairs Murrays Bay service isn’t bolted onto an ordinary panel shop. It’s separately trained and equipped, because Tesla and BYD hold approved repairers to a standard ordinary insurance-panel accreditation doesn’t touch.
Why Locals Choose Holgate Panelbeaters
Family run since 1957 counts for something on the North Shore, where people still ask their neighbour who they used last time rather than picking whoever’s van they saw first. Insured through AMI, NZI, Vero, State, FMG or AA? Then Holgate Panelbeaters is where you need to go. Loan cars are available while your car’s with us for repair (conditions apply), and our Google reviews are testament to the great work we do. Check them out to see the quality of our work for yourself.
Walk the coastal path from Murrays Bay up to Rothesay Bay (locals call it the Gumdigger’s Trail) or south to Mairangi Bay, and you’ll pass within a few minutes of our workshop. Most of our regulars are Murrays Bay locals who’d rather use a nearby, family run business than drive across town.
Call 09 479 5612, pop into 746 Beach Road, or use the form on our Contact Us page to get your assessment booked in.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I choose my own panelbeater after a crash, or does my insurer decide?
In New Zealand, the choice is yours. Insurers often suggest a preferred repairer, but you’re entitled to use whoever you want, provided your insurer agrees with the repair estimate. If your insurer is AMI, NZI, Vero, State, FMG or AA Insurance, Holgate Panelbeaters is already an approved repairer on their panel.
Do Tesla and EV repairs cost more than repairing a petrol car?
Sometimes, yes. It depends on what’s actually damaged. Genuine Tesla and BYD parts aren’t cheap, and the aluminium welding work needs gear most standard shops don’t carry, so that can push the price up compared with a regular steel-bodied repair. We won’t guess a number without seeing the car. Bring it in and we’ll have a proper look, and give you a competitive estimate.
Will my Tesla warranty be affected if I don't use an approved repairer?
It can, and that’s not us being dramatic, Tesla says as much themselves. Non-approved parts or repair methods can affect both how the car performs and what’s covered under warranty. Sticking with an approved repairer keeps your car within the terms Tesla actually set out.
How long does a typical panel and paint job take?
Could be a couple of days, could be a couple of weeks. It depends on how bad the damage is and whether we’re waiting on parts. A minor scuff or bumper knock is usually in and out fairly fast. Structural work on EV’s takes longer, simply because there’s more involved in doing it properly.
Do you offer a loan car while my vehicle is being repaired?
Yes, subject to availability and conditions. It’s worth asking about this when you book your assessment so we can try to arrange one for you. We have both Tesla and BYD vehicles available too.
Is Browns Bay close enough to Murrays Bay to be convenient?
Our Browns Bay workshop sits just around the coast from Murrays Bay, a few minutes along Beach Road past the reserve and the wharf. Plenty of our regular customers are Murrays Bay locals who’d rather deal with a nearby, family run business than drive further afield.
